K'naan's ABC's

The very first impression of this song as "Eminem."
It was like the Eminem era all over again. Not only because of how bundled together his words were but also because because his rhythm AND voice were exactly like Eminem's. I thought it was amusing there for a minute.
Also, I wasn't quite sure what the message was. I took it with one of two, either he was talking about how he has really succeeded (because he really elaborated on it), or he was very angry because things are falling apart in this world. I was pretty confused, and I think it was the first time that I have been confused about a song (or maybe the second time.)

Pants O_O

Pants are pants... Right? Most of the time, I personally take for granted that I own pairs of jeans or sweats. Although I don't own many, at least one pair for every day of the week seems fair game for me. But I know there are people who don't even own ONE pair and yet I still take mine for granted. Jeans/sweats/capris, pants are pants. To me, they're there, I like them, "need" them but don't go out of my way to buy them (specially because I can't find many my size anyway). With all honesty, pants to me is simply another piece of clothing most of the time.

Now if for some reason my pants were taken away, or I didn't have the privilege to own pants anymore, I'd be devastated. Not because I'm this "girly girl" who is obsessed with fashion in any way, but because pants are just my thing. I could not imagine walking outside in 10 degree weather in a long, hand-made dress (like they did in earlier times in my culture). It simply doesn't seem feasible. I could not go to sleep at night without sweats, or some sort of long pants. Pants have become my comfort. I'd much rather wear them than shorts, skirts or anything else imaginable. As naive as it may sound, it's difficult for me to comprehend that there are people who don't own a pair of jeans or pants.

It's good to be reminded of this because we take for granted many of the luxeries we have. If I truly think about it, things such as jeans (or pants), cell phones, hair straighteners, even an education seem like luxeries to many underdeveloped countries of the world but we take them for granted. It's kind of sad that coming from a very poor family I have forgotten these things, so to be reminded it is a good way of realizing how GREAT life has gotten for me and how there are people who aren't as lucky as I have been.

And... I'd like to say that I wouldn't like to see someone running around without pants around here. :)
